Posterous theme by Cory Watilo

Diaspora. Have you used it - or do you plan to check it out?

Who in my circles spends *any* time there?  It's been a few months now and here are my initial impressions in bullets.  Pardon me if some of this is obvious to you.  For most it won't be.  Here we go:

  • Very strong concentration of Anti-theists, athiests, and other anti religious people.
  • Lot's of scientific minded, technical, geek types.
  • Not many Catholic or Christian people on there.  Much open Christian bashing going on.  Sad.
  • Many fanboys and fangirls: Think SciFi or Fantasy conventions...
  • VERY Strong leftist counterculture vibe throughout most of the membership that I've seen.  Occupy movement, smash the state, pro-socialist/communist messages.
  • While I have yet to be personally attacked - I know it would be a matter of time.  For now they seem to ignore me.  I have little comments or 'likes' on what I've posted....
The short story is: The bulk of discussions I see are against most of what I personally stand for.  The one thing that's kind of kept me around is the quality of art and photography that's shared.   However; if you are comfortable with my observations then you should go take a look at least.  I like the IDEA of what Diaspora is trying to do in concept, but I don't belong there.

There are some excellent artists there but it's not enough return for the time invested.   Until more regular people adopt it, and their dev team can close some more of their bugs, I'm going to abandon my account.

I'll take a look at it again in a year.  Maybe.

To the slughead TLR Camera collectors on eBay...a rant, sent with love

Thanks for the bidding war on this camera.  You have now made it ridiculously overpriced, and out of reach for me.

http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=251004565390

I know most of you all, are collecting these Yashica twin lens reflex cameras. How neat is that?

This one like most, will probably just sit around collecting dust, when it should be out being USED!

Oh I know some of you will take them out to fondle them and show them off to your collector friends, but this one will likely NEVER see a roll of 120 run through it. Not ever.  Hey.  It's America, Land of the Free.  Do what you want.  Know this.

Your selfish, inconsiderate and- inane actions are over inflating the price of this, and all other similar cameras on the market.  I hate what you are doing with a purple passion.

I hope you are happy in depriving a serious amateur photographer of his prize.  Of course the seller is laughing all the way to the bank.  Good for them.

Signed, Righteously Angry

Cool news from the Impossible Project [Analogue Cameras]

Wow.  The Impossible Project is now shipping an electronic flash bar for the Polaroid SX-70!  It's one thing I have been waiting for.  One less dealbreaker from acquiring one of those amazing, classic cameras.

To be sure: The whole kit will be expensive to get into, and the film is not the cheapest.  I think the mission is to keep the Impossible Project afloat AND keep analog photography kicking too!  It's the closest we were to digital before there was digital photography.

That being said, do realize: I've got "analog camera acquisition syndrome" [ACAS(?)] pretty bad at the moment.

At any rate it - will be a while before I can get going, but it's on the list.

What do you think?

My review of "The Mass - Four encounters with Jesus that will change your life" By Dr. Tom Curran...

The Mass: Four Encounters with Jesus That Will Change Your LifeThe Mass: Four Encounters with Jesus That Will Change Your Life by Tom Curran
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I purchased this book after sitting for the 'one night presentation' of Dr. Curran's talk at my parish. I didn't have plans for purchasing anything, but that changed afterward.

The book was well written, in an easy to read and conversational way. I wish it had been required reading for my RCIA classes. It would have opened my eyes much sooner and preprared me to be "ALL IN" during Mass. (That's something Dr. Curran asks; Are we "All In"?)

I won't give any more spoilers, but whether you are a new Catholic, or a lifelong member of the church, this book offers much insight into four encounters with Jesus.   If you want to break out of your same, boring routine at Church - Read this book!

This book would be recommended to any bible Christians that may have curiosity or more serious inquiries into the Catholic faith, or want to understand what "Those Catholics" are really up to in Church.

Anyone, who desires a closer walk with Jesus owes it to themselves to learn about these four encounters within the Catholic Mass.
